Arctic Spill

A painting series about an oil spill in the Arctic Ocean.

As warming climate and resulting sea ice melt expose more of the arctic ocean, humans are about to repeat our ecological crimes on a new frontier. The irony is that even as our past mistakes give us clearer perspective on the scale and effects of our actions on this planet, these same mistakes are giving us the chance to fall even deeper in the hole. Nations and corporations are already analyzing the arctic for everything from fuel reserves to rare earth metals to new shipping lanes. In the race to exploit these resources, we will certainly cause further damage to this crucial ecosystem even beyond the harm done by climate change up to this point.
